Mumm-ra, the everliving, writes a love song

If you haven't heard of Mumm-ra, there's very little chance you'll ever hear of them again since they've just recently disbanded. Which is a shame, since  a) they chose such a curious name - they would have easily captured the interest of people who grew up on mid 80's Saturday morning cartoons and b) despite the eerie/evil connection to their name, they actually make really sweet love songs. Check out the video to one of their more popular songs - 'She's Got You High':

Let's Celebrate the New Look with Some Shout Out Louds

If you guys haven't noticed yet...we've got a new look to the site :)

I'd I've outdone myself this time (pats myself on the back).

It looks pretty decent I might say. I did love the old shocking-red artist pages - though this I guess, is better for long usage without eyestrain.

What's new you might ask? Basically, everything's brand spanking new! A few things to note - we've got our DB Updates widget at the upper left corner so y'all know how many artists we've got - and once you see the pathetic number we have now, maybe some of you guys can help out ; )  . There's the Random Words of Indie Wisdom, my favorite at the moment, in case you're down in the dumps or need some inspiration (our version of the fortune cookie). I've also got a new captcha (the random letters and numbers you get asked to type in when adding comments) - from reCaptcha. If you guys haven't heard of that yet, it's  the Carnegie Mellon University's project to digitize text books by letting us decode inintelligible texts from books via the captchas, and help refine their optical character recognition (OCR) software. (More info about reCaptcha here: http://recaptcha.net/ ). All the more reason for you guys to leave comments :)

And to celebrate, let's play some Shout Out Louds!

'Tonight I Have to Leave It' is something I love to listen to, to perk myself up. It has this dancey, conga-ish kind of beat that'll keep your head bopping. The video doesn't do justice to the happy-peppy feeling that you get from the song. Nonetheless, if you're interested in the shipping industry, it's a pretty good video to watch.

I (heart) Figurine

figurine_generic.jpgI love The Postal Service. 'Be Still My Heart' was the first song that my son sang to. For a kid who seems like he doesn't care about the things around him - it was a real surprise to know that he liked this song enough to sing along to it. So, when I was through listening to their songs for the millionth time, I turned to check if the other half of The Postal Service would satiate my hunger for new songs. Deathcab for Cutie, sadly, didn't do the trick. Even though the vocals were the same, it was too far from being The Postal Service for me. So imagine my delight when I discovered this other project by Jimmy Tamborello. I was checking out the wrong half all along! All I needed was the electro infused (and sometimes rave-themed) beats by Figurine.

If you're testing the waters for liking this band - Heartfelt is something you can start with. To those who don't love electronica as much as I do, this song might take some time to get used to. The opening isn't exactly something that'll reel you in to listen further - but if you do, you'll be in for a  treat. It's a song that grows on you and worth the 5-times-in-a-row play. It also garnered a 'What's that?' from my son - which is Paolo-speak for 'I really dig that song, what's it called?'.
