Why is this artist indie?
Sufjan Stevens writes beautiful and haunting songs about US states, Christmas and serial killers. He often accents his performances with costumes, donning wings or colorful T-Shirts with letters on them, accompanied by cheerleaders. He releases records under the Asthmatic Kitty label which he co-founded, and the Sounds Familyre label set up by fellow Danielson Famile bandmate, Daniel Smith.
