Why is this artist indie?

A true blue British band, The Maccabees started out in South London when school friends Orlando, Hugo, Felix, Rupert and Robert got together to form a group. Their first few singles were released by independent labels Promise Records and Fierce Panda which was accompanied by artwork done by Orlando. Their quirky stop motion music videos created and directed by fellow mates. The group is currently signed under Fiction Records (The Cure's record label).
