A Nebraska Pop Festival Sampler

npf.jpg

The Nebraska Pop Festival is goes on its second year today, and to promote it, they're giving out a free digital mixtape of the bands participating. Today's the first night of the festival, which kicks off at Barley Street Tavern at 8:00 pm and continues on until Sunday, September 19th with a final night at The Sydney. So if any of you indie music fans are in the area, just head on over to the venues posted at the festival's MySpace page 'cause that's where the party's at ;)

As with last year's fest, all proceeds will go to a local radio station -- and this year it's going to be University of Omaha's UNO Mav Radio.

The mixtape has tons of goodies from new, up and coming bands participating in the pop fest from different parts of the US as well as from Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. We've sampled a few of our favorites here at The Indie Music Database which you can check out after the jump --

Indie Music Hotties

Seeing the title, you might think - when did this site transform into Seventeen magazine?

For lack of any other ideas for topics for the Friday's list that's coming on a Tuesday, and seeing as to how I always think guys in the indie music  scene are underrepresented when hotness polls come up, I've compiled a short list of who I think are the hotties of today. My gauge for hotness is based on a guy's ability of producing or singing a song that could make my heart melt - and that's not accounting for physique and looks (aka a hot bod and a cute face).

SUFJAN STEVENS

This one is probably an obvious choice. Anyone who's ever been familiar with Sufjan Steven's music knows that he has the talent (and man, does he have talent!) as well as the look. If you haven't heard of Sufjan, take a listen to his Illinoise album and you'll definitely know what everyone's been raving about. His songs combine lyrical talent, beautiful instrumentation and a soothing voice that can make any girl (or in some cases, any guy) swoon. Forget about the gay rumors. Many think a lot of his songs have gay undertones - but to be fair though, To Be Alone With You doesn't really count, right - since it's about Jesus? Either way, he's still a major hottie. Isn't ambiguity in sexual preference the 'in' thing these days?

Check out Cute!Sufjan in the video after the jump, and this song from his upcoming electro-album(?) called Too Much. It deviates from his previous work, but the electro-girl in me is digging it.

Too Much

Light, Lost by Seasons

Nothing says 'ultimate music video masterpiece' than an opening where a cute redhead  is being dragged by the foot by a mysterious packaging peanut monster. Combined with a laidback, lazy day song by psychedelic band Seasons, it certainly ups the quirk level to endearing - despite the creepy styrofoam popcorn beings. Music video director Christopher J. Ewing, particularly chose to film on location at a unique Southern California hippie commune, in order to "properly achieve the Pee Wee's Playhouse meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe." Lovely, indeed.
