Piledriver Waltz by Alex Turner

Because it's a Submarine kind of day and we don't get much Arctic Monkeys music up on this site -- here's Alex Turner with Piledriver Waltz. I suggest renting the film too, it's definitely a pick-me-upper on a cloudy summer day.

Show Me Something New by Shout Out Louds

At last something new! Well, new-ish. Although the video might be a year old, it's been more than six months since my last post. I thought I'd throw in something by the Shout Out Louds to hark my return, especially since the first lines in this song rings true to what this blog and I have. Before I wax  poetic on how I always come back, let's take a moment and soak in the wonder of Shout Out Louds -- the underwater version. There's always beauty and grace in underwater shots -- just not when you're trying to sing.

Walking In The Air by The Maccabees

If you were a kid growing up in Britain, you would probably remember that little old animated film called "The Snowman" -- a touching holiday story that's basically an existentialist version of 'Frosty the Snowman'. Obviously, The Maccabees grew up with it and loved it so much which is why they made their own version of the moving and haunting song in the film called Walking In The Air. Originally sung, choir-boy style with a orchestral accompaniment, The Maccabees bring their own indie music touch to it, with Orlando Week's unique vocal styling and the group's amazing rock instrumentation (particularly the drums - it's absolutely perfect!). You may want to get in the mood for watching the film again (sans the David Bowie intro) and bawl your eyes out at the ending.

Christmas Was Better In The 80s by The Futureheads

As anyone who grew up in the eighties can attest - Christmas was better in the 80's. In fact, everything was better in the eighties - especially if you were kid. Back then, your day was complete just getting the latest Game and Watch and finding that Ziggy pencil top in your Tang orange juice...well, maybe just for me. In any case, the eighties was indeed, totally rad.

Video of the Week: In The Dark On Monday by The Woodlands

*Warning* - The video above contains graphic scenes of book mutilation. Otherwise, it's cute overload for all you craftsters out there. Although I would never, ever slaughter book like that -- The Woodlands' In The Dark On Monday would be a damn good song to hack a book to pieces to. If you find yourself drooling over the works of art made by the end of the video, they're also on sale at augustinafinch.etsy.com

Cold Love by Ghinzu

Our Video of the Week comes all the way from Belgium with a devilishly evil track from Ghinzu called 'Cold Love'. I don't why Russian Orthodox priests are mixing a recording while one of them's exorcising the band, and what  those gyrating girls behind them all have to do it. All I know is that I couldn't stop watching, hoping to make sense of it all. And what the heck is with that burnt roast chicken at the end? On the other hand, the music was quite enjoyable :)

Light, Lost by Seasons

Nothing says 'ultimate music video masterpiece' than an opening where a cute redhead  is being dragged by the foot by a mysterious packaging peanut monster. Combined with a laidback, lazy day song by psychedelic band Seasons, it certainly ups the quirk level to endearing - despite the creepy styrofoam popcorn beings. Music video director Christopher J. Ewing, particularly chose to film on location at a unique Southern California hippie commune, in order to "properly achieve the Pee Wee's Playhouse meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe." Lovely, indeed.

Bed Intruder Song by The Gregory Brothers

I know, I know, this went viral a few weeks ago - still, it's a video that begs to be posted,  even if it's just for posterity's sake. What's great about this video, is not that it's particularly hilarious (especially to people who aren't new to Autotune the News) but that it's incredibly catchy. After I got this song stuck in my head for weeks, along with their Double Rainbow song - I knew that the people behind it were musical geniuses. True enough, The Gregory Brothers are the type that have music pulsating through their veins - particularly the soul kind. To have a better appreciation of their true talent, you've got to check out their MySpace page. It's no wonder how this viral song got so many hits and how it inspired some equally excellent covers that you can check out here, here and here.

Piano Smashing goodness from Dani Rosenoer

Dani from Everyone's Talking sent this in, with the promise of posting my blog to their 50,000 followers. I thought, sure, and started contemplating on why, for the life me, have I not gotten 50,000 followers in the past three years that this blog has been alive. Then it hit me, like an axe hitting the white ivory keys of that hapless piano that got thrown over a cliff. I've had the wrong approach with this blog all along. Since random acts of sex and violence sell, instead of Lyric of the Day, we're going to have Boobies of the Day. But for now, you'll just have to content yourselves with a graphic display of piano mutilation - with excellent mood music to boot. If you liked the music, Dani's got some more at www.everyonestalking.net too.

Each Breath by Jarrod Gorbel feat. Jack and Rachel Antonoff

This is the latest from the series of videos from Jarrod Gorbel (The Honorary Title) to promote his newest album called Devil's Made a New Friend. Here, Jarrod and pals - indie fashion designer Rachel Antonoff and Steel Train frontman Jack Antonoff, sample one of the singles off his album called Each Breath. This undeniably catchy song is a stripped down acoustic version, certainly something that'll pique your curiosity and definitely make you wait in anticipation for the album version, which comes out August the 31st.
